Marilyn Grimes - Executive Director
Marilyn has lived in Bloomington Indiana her entire life. Having experienced substance misuse of her own
she currently has 14 years of sobriety. Marilyn went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree of Science,
concentrating on Substance misuse counseling. While working on her degree, Marilyn worked with New
Leaf New Life and was very concerned with the issues of substance misuse. Incarceration and
recidivism. Seeing a need in helping those dealing with these issues, she co-founded Courage to Change
Sober Living, Inc., in 2015.
Jason Hankins - Men’s House Case Manager
My name is Jason Hankins and I’m married to my wife Maggi of 17 years. We have 4 children Ann, Nathan, Seth and Matthew. I am a Corporate Safety Director and have been working in this field for almost 20 years. I am also a current Football Coach at Bloomington North High School and at Tri North Middle School. I currently have my own travel basketball team here in Bloomington known as the Bloomington Irish. I started with Courage to Change 4 months ago to try to give back to the community by mentoring adults currently dealing with addiction. I have enjoyed working around all the great people in this organization and I’m excited for what the future holds.
Justin Booth - Men’s House Case Manager
Justin has been a resident of Bloomington since November of 2021 when he began his local journey via his attendance at the Amethyst House. Afterwards he successfully graduated from the Courage to Change program all while becoming a Lead Behavioral Health Technician at Indiana Center For Recovery. Justin works diligently to support and help others within the community and in his personal life he unwinds by spending time with his dog, family, and riding his motorcycle.
Misty James - Women’s House Case Manager
Misty was the President of Courage to Change Sober Living since March 2022 prior to her current position. She is also a successful graduate of the program. She has a unique way of connecting with individuals of all varieties and backgrounds. She continues to advocate for our organization through public speaking and has a profound ability to share her experiences conducive in helping those overcoming adversity. In Misty's spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her partner and family.
Felicia Helvey - Board President
Felicia moved to Bloomington in 2012 and loved it so much she decided to stay for the long term. She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sociology and most recently graduated in 2023 with her Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in mental health and addictions. Her passion is working with people in the community who need the most support to help get them back on their feet. During the day, Felicia works with HealthNet’s Homeless Initiative Program as a case manager, bringing medical and psychiatric care to unhoused folks living on the streets, in shelters, and in permanent supportive housing. After hours, she works as an Addictions Counselor with Amethyst House, running both IOP and Continuing Care groups part-time. Felicia joined the Courage to Change board in late 2022 and took the position of Board President in 2024. In her free time, Felicia enjoys playing with her cats and ferrets and spending time with her family.
Danielle Morris - Board Vice President/Secretary
Danielle Morris was born in Indianapolis but has lived in Bloomington since she was 5 years old. Danielle struggled with substance abuse in the past and has been clean for almost 5 years. She has worked at rehabs and detox centers. She also has offered her photography services for many local recovery events. Danielle is currently working at another local non profit sober living house and is a year long board member for Courage to change Sober Living, playing the role as secretary while also running socail media posts/website updates.
Bobby Overman - Board Treasurer
Bobby is the treasurer of CTC and has been involved in nonprofit work for many years including serving in Peace Corps Belize, working as Nonprofit Central Specialist at the Monroe County Public Library and volunteering with other local nonprofits including serving as Board President of New Leaf New LIfe.
Cindy Houston - Board Member
Cindy Houston is a mostly retired mental health therapist who has spent over 50 years providing clinical services. 30 of those years were at Centerstone doing clinical work, managing programs and in administration. Her last position involved clinical training of the staff throughout Indiana. Prior to that she co-founded and was the director of a battered women's shelter and served in leadership at the state and national coalitions against domestic violence. Locally, she has been a long term board member for Middle Way House and was a founding member of the Monroe County Drug Court which has morphed into several problem solving courts. Cindy volunteered with that program as a team member for over 20 years.
AJ Lawson - Board Member
AJ is our newest board member. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy which is where his addiction began. AJ got clean just a little over 3 years ago and is very heavily involved in the recovery community. He is the Vice Chair of the area for NA and is also sponsoring guys and working to help them better their lives. He is also a graduate of Courage to Change and is about to graduate from Veterans Court. He will be a great asset to the board!
